Hot 5late: Week 3

ree

The Hot 5late is back.

After being out of the game for years, YGOB is unretiring one of the worst pieces of content the internet has ever seen.

Welcome back to the Hot 5late. Before you ask: Yes, this is totally a rip off of Uncle Colin Cowherd's Blazin' 5. He's the King of Content, so why not replicate it?

Full transparency, I have been absolute hot garbage picking games this year. Currently sitting at 5-9 in the annual pick 'em league, which is totally unacceptable. In my defense (or at least an explanation why), I have traditionally waited until Friday or Saturday night to make my picks, that way I have all of the information needed and the liquid courage to make the ballsy picks. This year, I haven't done that. No research, no trends, just picking random shit based on what I feel. I even missed the easiest bet in recent history: Week 1 Colts -1.5 vs Miami. You ask anyone I know, I am the biggest fan of the "Death Bet". Yea, I know, it's sick and twisted, but it's profitable. The Jim Irsay Dead Game of the Year bet was one that went right over my head, and I am disgusted that I missed that.

That being said, I'm going back to the drawing board and dialing up the same recipe that has made me a winner in the past. It's Whiskey Wednesday, let's dial up some winners.

Falcons @ Panthers

Pick: Panthers +6

Panthers are desperate. Falcons coming in after a huge road win in Minnesota in prime time (side note- how did Minnesota get back-to-back primetime games??). I love what Atlanta did in the draft this year. Jalon Walker, James Pearce, Xavier Watts, Billy Bowman. All impact players. However, this is the NFL. Division games get ugly. Panthers need this game, or else shit might hit the fan. I'll take the points.

Raiders @ Commanders

Pick: Raiders +3.5

This pick goes against my "don't pick the short week team" logic, but the Raiders got straight up embarrassed on Monday night. Also- there is a real chance Jayden Daniels doesn't play. Even if he does, he's going to be limited. Washington's defense is not that good. Hopefully the Raiders utilize Ashton Jeanty more. If not, Geno Smith is good enough to put up points and keep this within a score, if not win outright.

Colts @ Titans

Pick: Titans +4.5

Chris Berman voice "Eeeeeeeeeeveryone is on the Colts"

What a great story. Love that Daniel Jones has found a second life. There is a legit chance that they could sneak in as a wild card team in the AFC. However, the Titans are hungry dogs at home. Titans played the Rams close for 50 minutes, then melted down towards the end. Matt Stafford and Sean McVay took advantage of the mistakes and scored 2 TDs in the last 10 minutes. That ain't happening again. Division game. Cam Ward. Kevin Wildes. Titans cover at home.

Cowboys @ Bears

Pick: Bears +1

Cowboys are coming of the most insane win in quite some time. Naturally, teams who have those types of wins will come out the next week and lay an egg. On the other hand, the entire city is one loss away from burning down. I know the Bears have looked like dog shit the first two games, but this team is too talented to continue losing like this. A wise man once said: "A blind squirrel finds a nut every one in a while". Bears get their first win at home.

Chiefs @ Giants

Pick: Chiefs -6.5

Easiest (and most biased) pick of the week. Two brutal losses in a row for the Chiefs. They are going to come out guns a blazing. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is going to be extra motivated after hearing that he was moved down to Row 2 in Mahomes Mountain this week. Giants defense has talent, but they haven't put it all together yet. Andy Reid is on a mission to prove a point and get the Chiefs rolling going into their Week 4 matchup vs Baltimore.

Other Plays:

Packers @ Cleveland

Pick: Packers -8.5

I love Joe Flacco. I really do. I just don't see a scenario in which he survives a game where Micah Parsons is lining up across from him. The OL stinks. Quinshon Judkins is still learning about the speed of the NFL. This might be the easiest bet of the week. However, there is a scenario where the obvious pick isn't the play. Everyone watched Joe Flacco and Cleveland get dominated by Baltimore. Green Bay is the consensus #1 team in everyone's power rankings. Weird shit happens in the NFL. Browns could cover, and because I'm including it in this blog, I wouldn't be shocked if they do. But I'll bet on the uber talented team against the piss poor team in this scenario.
